Increase Productivity with a Real Desk
by KristinG Tuesday, January 1, 2013 11:35 AM

Today’s world is one of multitasking to the highest degree possible. We are trying to do five tasks at once. We are making dinner while catching up on emails and talking to our kids about their day at school. Rarely do we sit down and devote all of our attention to one task. On the surface it looks like we are getting more done this way. However, studies have shown we are doing many things, but doing nothing well. In actuality, we are skimping on giving anything our all.

While it is surely tempting to curl up on your sofa set with the laptop and television, doing so means your actual productivity decreases significantly. The reason behind many companies' hesitancy to allow employees to work from home is the knowledge that this often means half their attention will be on their work, and the other half will be on the TV, kitchen or newspaper. Requiring everyone to come into the office results in far more effective workers.

One way to work around this is to purchase a real desk to work from. Having a piece of unique furniture in your home designated entirely for the purpose of work will go a long way towards increasing your overall productivity and perhaps earn you more days of working from home!

Discreet Storage Options
by KristinG Tuesday, December 11, 2012 12:03 PM

Even the most organized of us have a few items that tend to linger around, no matter how hard you try to keep them tidy and stored away somewhere. This is especially true for your living room. The living room often gets the majority of a home’s foot traffic. This is where you entertain guests, watch TV, catch up on leftover work and occasionally let a friend spend the night. It only makes sense that it lends itself to accumulating more stuff.

Whether it be remote controls, magazines, extra blankets or DVDs, things tend to gather near your sofa set. The problem stems from the fact that these items are needed on a daily basis and cannot be stored somewhere out of the way. No one wants to get up from the couch and seek out the remote control or the latest issue of People magazine every time he or she needs to veg out. You want to be able to lean over and grab hold of what you need. But, you still do not care to live in clutter.

There are unique furniture solutions to this dilemma. Try investing in a storage ottoman. These clever pieces of furniture allow you to have the best of both worlds: storage and a clutter-free home. Plus, they give you a place to rest your feet! What more could you want?

Caring For Your Leather Sofa
by KristinG Wednesday, August 1, 2012 12:01 PM

Leather sofa sets and leather reclining chairs are by far the most popular living room furniture out there, for a long list of reasons that include durability, visuals and easy cleaning. These sofa sets look great, add polish to a room and are super comfortable for lounging about or getting work done from the comfort of your couch. They are practically child and pet proof and make keeping a tidy home as easy as it can possibly be. That being said, there are some things to keep in mind when caring for your leather sofa set.

The first thing to note is that in order to clean your leather sofa set you should use a conditioner every 6-12 months and wipe up spills as they occur. Do not use normal cleaning supplies like soaps, detergents or solvents; as these might damage the leather. In a nutshell, this is all it takes to maintain your sofa set. It seriously couldn’t be easier! To go the extra mile, choose a protected leather for your furniture so that your kids and pets have no chance of leaving a lasting mark. Add a wipe down every week or so  and you are all set. Furniture made easy!

Choosing The Best Living Room Furniture Option For Your Life
by KristinG Monday, July 23, 2012 10:40 AM

With what seems like the endless stream of options available to you, how does one choose the style of living room furniture that will work best for them and their family? Would a full sofa work best? What about a loveseat or reclining leather chair? Leather or cushion? Furniture shopping can quickly turn into a full time job. To make your search a little easier, here are some factors to consider when making your final decision.

How much time do you spend in your living room? The more time you'll be spending there, the more imperative adequate space and comfort are.

Do you have kids? Young or old? Young kids lend themselves to spills, rough-housing and the like - hence, leather would probably best the best route to take here. A full sofa would work better than a loveseat for households with children; better for gathering the family on for snuggling purposes.

Do you frequently have overnight guests (and no guestroom)? If so, a full sofa set might be a better idea than a loveseat since it provides more space for couch surfing friends or family.

Recliner chairs rarely work as the only furniture for a room; but provide an excellent compliment to a sofa. Reclining chairs are perfect for working from home, relaxing after a hard day with a good book or paying bills.

Take these guidelines into consideration while shopping, but in the end do what feels right in your guy and works with your budget.

Pet Friendly Furniture
by KristinG Friday, July 13, 2012 2:40 PM

Many people want to strike a balance between having a comfortable,
elegant home and one friendly for pets. The fact of the matter is you
can protect your furniture without having to buy thousands of pet hair
rollers.

Leather sofa sets are a good choice for dogs and cats. Many animals
don’t like the feel of leather and will avoid leather furniture. Even
if they do climb on the furniture, their fur can easily be removed.
With cats, just make sure they have a scratching post or else that
recliner leather chair is going to look like a tantalizing option for
claw care!

Another option is to buy a sofa set and section off one part for the pet.
Place their bed there and let them know it is their space and that
they are not allowed elsewhere on the couch. Most animals will accept
these terms and the rest of your couch will be fur-free.

If you want your pets off the couch entirely, you can accomplish that
with some training. I would suggest placing a crate or bed for your
animal in the living room. That way when the family gathers they feel
like they have a place and are a part of things.

Myths and Facts about Leather Furniture
by KristinG Friday, June 15, 2012 1:47 PM

Are you planning on purchasing a new sofa set? Has your husband had his eye on a leather recliner chair? Are you hesitant to get the leather furniture because you've heard lots of bad things about it? Well, fear not. Classy Home is here to assuage your fears and give you the facts about leather furniture.

Many people think that leather furniture doesn't last a long time. Where this rumor came from I have no idea but it decidedly untrue. A lot of leather furniture is well made and since leather is a natural material it ages well. It gets a natural sort of patina that just makes the furniture more beautiful.

You might have also heard that leather is too hot in the summer and too cold in the winter. While this is true upon first contact it's not entirely accurate. In the winter, leather absorbs body heat quickly and warms up. In the summer, leather, again being a natural material, breathes and won't heat up so much that it burns. You need to keep it out of direct sunlight. It's also a very absorbent material. It is very comfortable in the summer because it soaks in perspiration which makes it the best seat in the house on a hot day.

Making a Room Look Larger
by KristinG Monday, May 21, 2012 1:58 PM

Small rooms can be a complete downer. They can make you feel cramped and confined. It's not something you want to feel in your own home or apartment. Luckily, even if you do have a smaller room somewhere in your living quarters, there are some tricks to making it seem a little bigger than it really is.

First of all, make sure your room is painted a light, neutral color. Darker colors make rooms feel smaller. Always remember to leave the ceiling white. This makes it seem a little higher.

Secondly, make sure when you buy new furniture like a sofa set or some other unique furniture it is able to fit in the room. However, it sometimes helps a room look bigger if you have only a few pieces but make them slightly oversize for the room.

Some of the biggest tricks are for windows and mirrors. Make the curtains go floor to ceiling instead of just covering the windows. This will make them appear bigger than they are and the room, by association, will look larger. Mirrors make every room look bigger. The reflected image helps to increase the appearance of floorspace. To add to this effect try putting lights near the mirror to reflect the light. You'll be surprised how large your room can feel!
