Bringing Summer Inside
by KristinG Tuesday, May 14, 2013 5:05 PM

With summer right around the corner, people are likely looking around their homes wondering how to best bring the spirit of the season inside their homes. Most of us do not have the time or money to completely redecorate our homes every time the seasons change. No one is suggesting that you have a separate sofa set for winter and spring, but there are a few easy changes you can make to bring the feeling of blue skies and green fields into your home.

Coffee table sets are a perfect way to inject some of the summer spirit into your home. As the weather warms and the sun stays out a little longer each day, add a summer flower centerpiece to your coffee table set. They don't need to cost much: simply send the kids out to the nearest park to pick flowers. Your little ones will love watching their finds become the centerpiece for your home and you will get a taste of summer every time you sit down in your living room to enjoy your iced tea and romance novel.

Throw pillows and blankets are an even better way to add a pop of summer love to your room. Throw pillows with summer patterns can be found in almost any home goods store and will instantly summarize your home. The same goes for blankets.

Try these small touches when decorating for the months ahead. Then get outside and enjoy the beautiful weather!

Pieces Your Children Will Enjoy for Years To Come
by KristinG Wednesday, May 1, 2013 3:59 PM

After walking hand in hand with our children through the aches, pains, joys and sorrows of life, watching them leave the home you made for them can be both exhilarating and devastating at the same time. While we are overcome with pride at the fact that our little girls and boys are now fully grown adults who are able to care for themselves and build a home for their families, we also want to hold onto them forever. As we walk through this bittersweet moment, we might be looking for a way to give them something from the home to take with them.

Giving your adult children the coffee table set they grew up with when they leave shows them that you love them and lets them have a sense of familiarity in their new home. As they walk room to room through their new home and nothing has any memories, they will truly appreciate the unique furniture pieces that you gifted them with. They tend to latch on to these pieces of comfort in the same way they clung to their blankies as kids. It also gives you the peace of mind that your presence is still with them as they move on.

Find a piece your child loves and surprise them on moving day by giving it to them. The gesture will surely be appreciated.

Can Your Living Room Furniture Save Your Marriage?
by KristinG Tuesday, April 9, 2013 10:34 AM

Marriage is hard. All anyone has to do is take a quick look at the current divorce rate to sense this. All too often couples do not even realize that there is a problem until things are beyond repair. It can seem like you literally woke up one day and were married to a man or woman you do not even like, let alone love. Marriage counseling has become the go to solution for many. These professionals can be vital in ascertaining what the problem is and how to mend it. Rarely, however, do we look to our interior decoration schemes for some insight into the deterioration of our relationships.

While it might not strike you as immediately obvious, your living room can be a treasure chest of insight into your relationship. Take a look around. How are the sofa sets positioned? Are they placed in way that makes conversation and cuddling easy? Or, rather, are they placed on either side of the room with clearly defined interests and occupants? Any marriage counselor will tell you that the key to keeping the romance alive is spending time together. If there is an overload of unique furniture and not communal seating options in your living room, it means you have already resigned yourselves to living separate lives. It is easy to see how it goes downhill from there.

Take a look around. Redecorating could be the easy marriage saving plan available.

Feng Shui and Your Living Room
by KristinG Wednesday, March 6, 2013 4:14 PM

Feng shui has been around for centuries with the goal of directing and controlling the flow of energy in a room. The trend of incorporating the principles of feng shui into homes and offices has really taken off. People have latched on to the belief that they are happier and more effective when the energy of their home is not blocked. Whether or not you subscribe to this belief system, the spatial arrangements the theory suggests are visually pleasing to all.

Applying Feng Shui To Your Living Room:

  1. Remember that your living room sofa set is the center point of the room. Therefore, all of the other furniture should be arranged around this piece.
  2. Try to position the sofa in the corner that is farthest from the door and window. Also be sure the sofa is in clear view of the door.
  3. Avoid having too much space between the wall and the sofa. The wall provides security and protection, so you want to stick close to it.
  4. Do not place the sofa in front of a window or directly opposite the door. Since energy flows between the door and the window, you do not want to block its path.
  5. Use screens and partitions to influence the flow of energy through the living room. Direct light and energy towards coffee table sets and chairs. Use these screens to create a pathway for the energy flow.

Once all this is in order, sit back, relax and enjoy a peaceful existence.

Take A Break from the Traditional
by KristinG Thursday, February 28, 2013 12:35 PM

When it comes to traditionally elegant furniture, we all know to trust the big names and opt for an Ashley sofa or some quality ACME furniture. These pieces offer you the best selection of the most reputable and aesthetically appealing options around. These designers make turning your living room into the room of your dreams easy.

If your dreams tend to veer off the beaten path, finding home décor that serves a functional purpose while pleasing you visually can be a little more challenging. This is where unique furniture comes into play. Furniture can be anything you want it to be. It need not follow the traditional norms. And, it can be made out of anything, as long as you are willing to put in a little elbow grease and utilize some creativity.

Here are a few ideas to get you started:

  1. Turning an abandoned church pew into a dining table bench.
  2. Hanging a hollowed out piano as a bookshelf (as pictured).
  3. Turning an old bathtub into a couch with some funky cushions and strategic placing.
  4. Building a shelf out of old milk crates.

These are just a few of the ways you can turn the non-obvious into surprisingly fashionable furniture pieces.

Still unconvinced? Visit our site for gorgeous Ashley sofa sets and more.

Taking Apart Your Recliner Chair
by KristinG Tuesday, February 19, 2013 3:59 PM

Moving furniture can be a real hassle. Between the Ashley sofas and bookshelves, it is almost enough to make someone vow to never move again. While this is not true for the sofa sets you own, you can take apart your recliner chair. Breaking the chair down into smaller pieces will eliminate at least one headache. Despite the fact this process sounds complicated, it is actually quite simple, and this step-by-step guide will take you from start to finish without a single tear shed.

Taking Apart Your Recliner Chair:

  1. While standing behind the recliner, reach into the gap between the backrest and the sides of the chair. Pull down on the metal levers inside the gap to release the backrest from the recliner’s frame.
  2. Lay the recliner on its side so that you can access the bottom of the seat.
  3. Find the pins that connect the seat to the chair’s arms, remove the screws from the pins and then slide the pins out to release the front.
  4. Lift the seat of the chair until you can reach the screws that attach the seats to the  sides of the recliner. Remove the screws and lift the seat out of the chair.
  5. Use a wrench to loosen the bolts that secure the arms of the chair. Remove these bolts and pull away the arms.

This will leave you will a few parts that can easily be boxed for shipping or transport.

Cleaning Your Recliner
by KristinG Tuesday, February 12, 2013 5:06 PM

Leather’s incredible durability is one of its most attractive features. It is built to last and will withstand almost any wear and tear your family subjects it to. That said, if you want your leather furniture to continue to look as shiny as when it was first placed in your home, you will have to administer a cleaning every few months. Given its unique characteristics, it is vital that you do your research into how to safely clean leather.

Leather is porous. This means that saturating it with water or harsh cleaning products can ruin its appearance. Therefore, when it comes to spills or spots, use only mild products and a leather conditioner to keep the look and texture of your leather recliner chair or sofa set up to snuff.

Cleaning Your Reclining Leather Chair:

  1. Lightly dampen a soft cloth with warm water and apply two or three drops of mild detergent or liquid hand soap.
  2. Wipe the recliner gently with the cloth to remove any spills or dirt.
  3. Rinse the cloth and wring it completely when it accumulates dirt or residue.
  4. Lightly dampen a clean cloth with warm water and wring it out completely.
  5. Wipe the leather recliner chair with the cloth to remove any extra soap or detergent.
  6. Dry the leather with a clean cloth and allow to air dry completely.
  7. Apply a light layer of leather conditioner to the recliner using small, circular motions.

Furniture Sets Take the Guesswork Out of Decorating
by KristinG Wednesday, February 6, 2013 11:23 AM

The art of decorating your home is exactly that, an art. Some people excel at it; it just comes naturally to them. Others want a beautiful home but dread the prospect of searching through furniture options, selecting colors and styles, figuring out how to add unique furniture accents and, finally, executing the entire project. Hiring a professional interior designer is an option. These professionals will ensure you walk away with a home that is spectacular looking and easy to live in. However, these folks also tend to charge quite a bit. If you have the money and want to save yourself some stress, go for it.

Most of us, however, either do not have the money or would prefer not to spend it on a professional decorator. The Internet is a great resource for home decorating tips. Browse around and get ideas. These will surely help. Additionally, buying a living room set like those by Acme furniture or Ashley sofas will save you the trouble of having to find pieces that complement each other. Buying a living room set is akin to buying a ready-made decorating scheme. And, for those of you with a strong aversion to decorating, this might be exactly what you are in need of.

Check out our selection and get started on your stress-free home decoration.

Furnishings for Newlyweds
by KristinG Monday, January 14, 2013 1:47 PM

Congrats on your recent nuptials! Now you get to live happily ever after in marital bliss, right? Not so fast! First, you need to tackle decorating your home. This is terrain every newlywed must travel, yet it can be a tricky one to walk. This is likely the first time both you and your beloved have had to accommodate another’s tastes in furniture, wall colors and bedding. It does not need to turn into arguments and tears. Here are some tips to turning the process into another bonding experience for the two of you.

Look at decorating magazines, browse furniture stores, and scour decorating websites. Take in what you see and compile two folders: a “his” folder and a “hers” folder. Then, pour a tall glass of wine and browse each other’s folders and create a third folder of things you both like.

If the taste in décor greatly differs and an agreement is not coming freely, then designate one room in the apartment to each of you. “Your” room is where you will house that coffee table set you can’t live without (and he can’t stand). And the same goes for him. He can set up a man cave, complete with a leather recliner chair, in his space.

The rest of the apartment is joint property and an agreement must be reached. Thankfully, once each party has a space they love, agreements on paint colors and rugs come a lot faster. Good luck and remember that you love each other!
